DIAGNOdent®

At Hooie Dental, we know that prevention is the very best way to stop tooth decay. This requires everyday participation on the part of the patient by way of brushing, flossing, and regular professional dental prophylaxis or what you may refer to as cleanings.  Along with regular cleanings, the next most crucial step that can be taken is early detection of problems, which is exactly the issue addressed by the DIAGNOdent® dental caries detection system, offered at our Crossville, TN office. Using a special laser Dr. Hooie sweeps over your teeth, scanning for even the smallest indentation or imperfection. These small early cavities can be identified and restored utilizing our laser; preserving more of your natural tooth leaving it stronger and less likely to crack in the future. At our dental practice we have seen excellent results in preventing extensive tooth loss through the use of our DIAGNOdent®, and we highly recommend it for all our patients.  Please contact us for additional information on DIAGNOdent®.

Digital X-Rays

Highly detailed images and important information can be obtained through the use of X-rays, and Dr. Hooie uses them to look at your bone structure and teeth to diagnose problems that would otherwise remain hidden. However, X-rays can be harmful and can even cause cancer with prolonged exposure, which is why heavy lead vests have been used in the past. That potential danger is one of the reasons why Dr. Hooie uses a digital X-ray system at his office. As well as providing one of the highest quality digital images, it also reduces the amount of radiation by as much as 80 percent when compared to traditional X-ray systems. It is a great asset to have in our office.  Please contact us for additional information on digital X-rays.

Intraoral Cameras

One of the most beneficial pieces of technology we have at Hooie Dental is intraoral cameras. This allows Dr. Hooie to view detailed images from even the most hard to reach places in the mouth. This has added benefits to patients because, as well as allowing them to see for themselves, it allows us to much more effectively investigate and diagnose potential problems. This extra point of view is sometimes needed during more complex procedures and we are happy to implement it at our office since it improves our service for our patients. For a dentist in Crossville, or the surrounding area who uses an intraoral camera, contact Donald Hooie, DDS.

Waterlase™ MD (Laser dentistry)

How does the Waterlase work?

The dental handpiece (drill) works with friction, which causes heat and triggers pain. This necessitates injection with anesthetic and numb lips, and opens the possibility for thermal damage. WaterLase MD uses a unique, powerful interaction of a patented YSGG laser wavelength and proprietary water/air spray that cuts, etches and shapes target tissues without contact, heat, vibration or pressure. Most procedures can be done painlessly usually without any anesthetic.

What are the benefits of the Waterlase?

Dr. Hooie can often get you in and out of the dentist chair faster, since it’s less likely that you’ll need an anesthetic to restore your cavity – research shows that the vast majority of patients don’t. It’s nice to avoid that shot, isn’t it? Anesthetic-free dentistry can allow your dentist to perform several procedures in a single appointment that used to require more than one visit. Also, a no-pain WaterLase MD Dentist can perform procedures that once meant an additional trip to a periodontist, endodontist or other specialist, saving you even more time.

WaterLase is also highly effective for gums, skin, bone – more precisely and with less bleeding than a scalpel!

The Wand® Handpiece

The ergonomically designed and patented handpiece enables all injections to be more comfortable and easier to perform, resulting in improved clinical outcomes for patients. The unique pen-like grasp, in combination with the feather-like weight of The Wand handpiece, produces unparalleled tactile control for every injection. Moreover, The Wand handpiece allows bi-directional rotation during injection, which prevents needle deflection that occurs with a traditional syringe. A straighter path results in a more accurate injection, meaning fewer missed injections and more rapid onset of medication. Most patients agree the Wand injection is much more comfortable than traditional syringes too!
